Krishna Conscious Lyrics

Exciting update! Mrgaksi Mataji’s original melodies  have been located here: https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLseoGCWmhh0RcyAB74JwDuMQ9Vit0YQz9
Not sure if it is all of them. Will get checked out more as time permits.

Here are collected lyrics for songs by Yamini Mrgaksi, Bhavatarini and others. They were written from memory around 2008, so forgive any errors because the melodies were not located online until much later. And sadly, at Yamini’s page, many of them are still missing- I only recognize a few- and ones I never heard before are there. Also, I used to think that her recordings were originally sung by children along with her or just children. But my memory is fading…

In any case, all the songs below are worth learning.  Highly recommended for all ages. We did a few temple community plays using these. And they are wonderful to sing to your children or grandchildren before they go to sleep. I personally memorized them all, along with the children, just by playing the originals. Singing them benefits me as well (and has helped me stay awake many times when driving late at night).

One more note- a few of the lyrics listed here have been adapted or slightly adapted for my own personal use. For example, instead of a child singing, "This body's just a lump of flesh that soon will have to go", which I think sounds a little scary, it got changed to, "This body's just a lump of flesh that one day will have to go."

Lastly, I noticed I may have credited songs to the wrong person. I tried to correct as best I could with the new information above online. But please let me know if anyone notices anything is still incorrect. Thanks

SONGS BY YAMINI
PUTANA
Putana was a kichari witch, and so she could fly in the sky.
Although she was evil she entered Gokula where everyone let her pass by.
Because of her smiling beauty and the lotus in her hand
Yasoda and Rohini said, “The goddess of fortune has come.”

Putana was a sword in a decorated case
Because of the poison upon her breast.
She was a demon, Krsna could tell
So He sucked out her milk and her life as well.
repeat last stanza
Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna…

TRNAVARTA
Trnavarta came from Kamsa shaped like a whirlwind
Putting Krsna on his shoulders, darkening Vrndavana.
Dark, dark all around, Baby Krsna can’t be found.
Yasoda is crying upon the ground.

Oh, Baby Krsna made Himself as heavy as a mountain,
Caught Trnavarta’s neck and made him fall down.
Down, down to the ground, sinful Trnavarta.
Demons have to die, but Krsna is alive.

Down, down to the ground, sinful Trnavarta
Demons die away, but Krishna is safe.

SAKATASURA
Baby Krsna kicked the cart. It fell to the ground and broke apart.2x
Sakatasura was pushed along the cart upon the earth. 2x
Repeat first line 2x

AJAMILA
At the time of death,
this Ajamila helplessly and very loudly chanted the holy name of the Lord, Narayana!
That chanting alone has already freed him from the reactions of all sinful life.
Therefore, oh servants of Yamaraja, do not try
to take him to your master to be punished in hellish life.

THE WIVES OF BRAHMANAS
Mothers, gather up and leave. Hurry, let us fill the pots.
Krsna and Balarama are near. Now They’re calling for us.
Husbands, fathers, sons and friends, all have asked us not to go
But come, let us bring Him a feast. Krsna is our life and soul.

DENUKASURA
Dear Balarama, Your arms are strong.
Dear Krsna, You can kill the demons
Nearby is the Talavana forest,
Full of palm trees filled with fruits.

No one can get them because there’s a demon there- Denukasura.

Dear Krsna and Balarama,
Only You can kill such demons!
All the birds and animals
Have left this forest filled with fruits.

Please let us go there,
We like the aroma!Don’t You smell it from here? 2x

Today in the forest of Talavana,
Lord Krsna and Balarama,
Killed the Denukasura by wheeling him around and around!
3x

Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna...

GOVARDHANA HILL
“My dear Father, what is this plan for a sacrifice? Please explain to Me.
Is it a Vedic injunction or a popular ceremony?’

"My dear boy, this function is traditional.
We have to thank Lord Indra for kindly sending rainfall.
We cannot live without the rain for farming and producing grain."

“My dear Father, let us not worship Indra. We have our duties to perform.
Rain will come from the mode of passion, not by worshiping him
Rain is falling on the ocean and on the land as well.
Besides we have our relationship with the brahmana men and Govardhana Hill.

“We are satisfied living in this forest of Vrndavana. 2x

“Oh, let us take the grains and ghee collected for the yajna
To satisfy our Govardhana Hill. Never mind Lord Indra.

"Dear Father, please prepare rice, dahl, halava, puris, pakoras, laddus, rasagullas,
Sandesh, sweetrice. Send for the brahmanas.
Grains for the brahmana men chanting the Vedic hyms.
Decorate the cows. Feed them well.
Keeping them in front, circumambulate the hill.

"Govardhana puja, Govardhana puja.
Lot’s of prasadam, Lot’s of prasadam.
Govardhana puja, Govardhana puja.
If you neglect Govardhan worship, you will be bit by a snake on the hill.

"All the people of Vrndavana,
for your good fortune and the fortune of your cows as well
Just worship Govardhana Hill.” 2x

(Indra)
"Samvartaka cloud, go destroy Vrndavana. They have stopped the sacrifice which was meant for me.
Samvartaka cloud, go there and inundate the place.
They have taken Krsna so seriously.
Go and I shall also go riding on my elephant.
Great storms will come with me to give the proper punishment.

“Pour down the rain now all you clouds.
They should be destroyed along with their cows." 2x

(Vraja vasis)
"We are all in danger, Lord Indra’s sending rain.
It falls like sharpened arrows along with heavy wind.
Thunder, lightning, ice is falling, too.
We are all in danger! What shall we do?

"Govinda, Govinda we are now weak. Let us take shelter of Your lotus feet.
Govinda, Govinda, Your mercy is sweet. Let us take shelter of Your lotus feet.

"Dear Krsna, You are very strong, and you love Your devotees…

‘Now please save us from angry Indra. 2x

“Krsna, dear Krsna."

(Giridhari)
"Dear inhabitants of Vrndavana, now I’ve lifted Govardhana Hill.
It will protect you just like a big umbrella.

“Don’t be afraid and think it will fall. 2x

“Be happy together."

(Vraja vasis)
"We’re not hungry, we’re not thirsty. We don’t’ even want to sleep!
Krsna lifted up the hill and then we entered underneath.
We’re not hungry, we’re not thirsty. We don’t even want to eat!
We just wonder how has Krsna held the hill for one whole week???

“Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna…"

KRSNA STOLE THE BUTTER
Krsna stole the butter; He ran from Yasoda, but she was quick to pick up a stick.
She found Baby Krsna on a grinding mortar, feeding the monkeys all of the butter.
Seeing her near, He fled in fear.
Krsna ran. Yasoda ran. Krsna ran and Yasoda ran.

Her body was heavy and her waist was thin, but somehow she ran and captured Him.
He was almost crying. His eyes were afraid. Seeing Him so, she threw her stick away.
Yasoda endeavored to bind Himup so she went the house to get some rope.
She did not know the Supreme Personality can’t be bound by any yogi.
He has no beginning; He has no end. He’s all pervading and unlimited.
He Himself is the whole cosmic manifestation.
Appearing as her child still He has no limitation.

Yasoda endeavored to bind her child and went to get more rope.
But again and again tied together, they were two inches too short!
What to do? She was smiling but she said, “How is this happening?”

Krsna likes to be bound by the love of His devotee mother.
Seeing her hard labor, compassionate upon her, He agreed to be bound by the ropes of Yasoda.

No one can control Krsna. A devotee can only surrender.
Krsna can save Him; Krsna can kill him. But he never forgets his position.
In the same way Krsna gets transcendental pleasure by submitting Himself to the protection of Yasoda.
Krsna likes to be bound by love. He can’t be bound any other way.
Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna….

REMEMBERING KRSNA
All day we think of Krsna in the forest.
Or we think of Him herding calves in the pasture.
When we see Krsna returning, all our anxieties are relieved.
And seeing His face just like a lotus flower, we laugh and smile again.
Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna Hare Hare….

VISVAMBHARA
When Lord Caitany was a boy, His mother called Him Nimai
Lying on His bed He turned upside down.
In His lotus footprints, a thunderbolt and disc, conchshell club and fish could be found.
Mother Saci saw them on the ground.

Then Jagannanth Misra called the astrologer. He said, “On the body of your child
Are the marks of a great personality, five parts are large and five are fine,
Seven reddish, six raised, three are small, three are broad and three are very grave.
These thirty-two signs on the palms and soles are the symptoms of Lord Narayana.
Your boy with protect and maintain the world, so

“He will be called Visvambhara. He will be called Visvambhara.”2x

NIMAI AND ANANTA
A snake crawled into the courtyard
Nimai lay on its back.
His parents called, “Garuda! Save us from this attack!”
But when they called, “Ananta! Save our boy today!”
Only then did the snake slowly slip away.

EATING DIRT
Sacimata gave Nimai some sweets and told Him to sit and eat.
But when she left Him and then returned she found Him eating dirt.
“What is this? What is this? Why are You eating dirt?”

“Mother don’t’ be angry. I do not see my fault.
This is dirt, that is dirt. Dirt and sweets are the same.
You gave me simply dirt to eat, so I am not to blame."

"Eating dirt transformed to grains can make our bodies strong,
But dirt alone can cause disease before too very long.
If I have dirt shaped like a pot, I can carry water easily
But pouring it on a lump of clay, then I will have labored uselessly."

“Thank you Mother Saci, now I understand
I will drink your breast milk and never eat dirt again.”

VRNDAVANA
In the forest Krsna’s dancing
Cowhered boyfriends offer praise,
“Dear brother, you are dancing very nicely”, they say.
For Krsna and Balarama, the cowherd boys, too
Are tending the cows and blowing their flutes
And they enter where flowers are always in bloom,
The beautiful forest of Vrndavana.

“Dear Krsna and Balarama! Dear Krsna and Balarama!
Now we are burning from the heat.
Let us take shelter of Your lotus feet.
Let us take shelter of Your lotus feet.”

RETURNING TO VRNDAVAN
In the evening
Krsna and Balarama
Along with the boys and cows
Are returning
To Vrndavana
Playing Their flutes.

Now They’re approaching,
Krsna and Balarama.
All through the day they're in the forest.
In Their absence
We think one moment
To be like twelve years.

Hare Krsna Hare Krsna…

SONGS BY MRGAKSHI

JARIKHANDA PASTIMES
We are the monkeys we play in the trees
When the lion comes we hide in the leaves
repeat

We are the deer full of fear
The lion may be coming near.
repeat

See the angry snake, full of hate
repeat

We are lions we like to prowl
Everyone runs when they hear us growl.
repeat

Just chant you animals the holy name!
Give up all your fears.
This chanting of the holy names
Will fill your eyes with tears!
Hare Krsna Hare Krsna…

KRSNA, KRSNA
Krsna, Krsna lets all play
Going to the forest.
Sounding on our flutes and horns
Keep the cows before us
With a stick, lunch bag, too,
We’ll be happy seeing You.
Krsna’s beautiful and blue,
Hari Hari Bol! Hari Hari Bol

Krsna, Krsna, now we’re here
Dancing all together.
Decorate with twigs and leaves
Clay and peacock feather
Putting flowers in our hair,
Krsna’s pleasure is our care.
Loving Him we have no fear.
Hari Hari Bol! Hari Hari Bol!

AGHASURA
“His name is Aghasura, He’s fat and round
His lip is in the sky, his chin is on the ground
His wide open mouth is just like a cave
His tongue appears like a broad traffic way.
From his mouth hurricanes blow
From his eyes, fire glows
Now he is waiting to swallow us soon
But Krsna will kill him like Bakasura
Krsna will save us! Krsna will save us! Krsna will save us!
Krsna! Krsna! Krsna!”

“Everyone has entered but Krsna
Who killed my brother and sister
Now I’m waiting for Him to come in.”

“How can I save My dear friends?
I will enter within!”

“Alas! Alas!”

“Jaya Krsna! Jaya Krsna! He brought us back to life!
Jaya Krsna! Jaya Krsna! Just see that dazzling light!”

“Jaya! Jaya! All glories to the Supreme Personality of Godhead
Jaya! Jaya! All glories to the Supreme Personality of Godhead” 4x

KRSNA KALIYA
Krsna, Krsna caught in the coils of Kaliya serpent
How can we live to see You in such danger?
Krsna, we have dedicated everything
But now we stand here unable to help You.
Nothing is more dear to us than Krsna
Seeing him enveloped by the serpent
We find the world becoming vacant
Thinking about His smile and friendship.
Krsna, Krsna caught in the coils of Kaliya serpent
How can we live to see You in such danger?
You are the only shelter.

WHERE IS KRSNA?
Dear Tulsi, where is Krsna? Dear Blackberries, where is Krsna?
Dear Kadamba flower, where is Krsna? Where is Krsna now?

(Imitating Krishna)
“Don’t be afraid of the torrents of rain and severe hurricane.
I’ll save you
Don’t be afraid of the torrents of rain and severe hurricane.
I’ll save you”

Where is Krsna, where is Krsna now?

“Rascal Kaliya leave this place. Rascal Kaliya leave this place
I’ve descended on the earth to punish all kinds of miscreants”

Where is Krsna, where is Krsna now?

“See the flames and the fire coming, Close your eyes, I’ll save you.
See the flames and the fire coming, Close your eyes, I’ll save you.”

Dear Tulsi, where is Krsna? Dear Blackberries, where is Krsna?
Dear Kadamba flower, where is Krsna?
Oh pear trees! Oh bael trees…!

“Where is Krsna now?”2x

KRSNA’S APPEARANCE PART ONE
Once upon a time, Vasudeva,
Just after marrying Devaki,
Was going home on his chariot
Along with her father’s dowry.
Kamsa her brother was driving,
And as they were passing through
A voice from the sky said, “Kamsa, you fool!
This sister’s eighth child will kill you.”

Kamsa grabbed Devaki’s hair
And raised his sword to kill her.
But Vasudaeva began to speak,
Astonished by Kamsa’s behavior:

“My dear brother in law, Kamsa!
You are the greatest warrior,
How is it you are so infuriated?
You’re prepared to kill your sister
On this auspicious day.
Why should you be so afraid?

“Why should you be so afraid of death?
Your death is born along with your birth.
At death this body is annihilated.
See the plant worm change from twig to twig, carefully.
So we must take our next body.

“These bodies are like we see in our dreams
When awake we forget just who we’ve been.
So we’ve forgotten our bodies of the past,
And by our mental condition at death
Accordingly we will take our birth

“The luminous planets like the moon and stars,
Show their reflections on reservoirs.
The moving water makes the moon seem to move,
So we think with these bodies we have some connection
But this is due to illusion.

“On account of illusion we think we belong
To a certain place or the human form.
The mental concoction and desires
Are because of a body we don’t require.
Therefore, I beg you not to listen
To your body and mind’s dictations

“Kamsa, please consider,
You have no danger from your sister,
And if there are sons in the future,
I promise I shall present them to you.”

In time Devaki and Vasudeva
Gave birth to eight sons and a daughter.
Vasudeva took the first born son
And brought him before King Kamsa.
Kamsa was pleased a promise was kept
And began to speak as follows:

“My dear Vasudeva,
You need not present this child to me.
The danger is to come from
The eighth born child of Devaki.
Why should I accept this child,
Unnecessarily?
You can take him back!
You can take him back!”

Narada Muni
Was anxious to accelerate
Lord Krsna’s descent.
Narada Muni
Came to Kamsa the king
And spoke this warning:

“Kamsa beware!
The demigods are taking birth
In the family of cowherd men and their wives
And on the other side
Vasudeva and others born
In the family of Vrsni, of the Yadu dynasty…
All are preparing for
The appearance of the Lord.

“Kamsa beware!
The demigods are taking birth!
They’ve come to assist Lord Vishnu,
Kamsa become alert!
The demigods are taking birth!
Kamsa become alert!
Lord Vishnu will be coming soon!”

When he was informed by Narada,
Kamsa became afraid.
He imprisoned his father Ugrasena,
Devaki and Vasudeva.
Year after year, Devaki,
Gave birth to another son
And thinking they might be Krsna,
Kamsa killed them one by one.

Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare…

I WORSHIP GOVINDA
I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord
‘Round His neck swings a flower garland
Beautified with a moon locket.
His hands are adorned with a flute and jeweled ornaments
And He always revels in pastimes of love
His graceful form, His graceful form
Is eternally manifest.

TEACHINGS FROM BHAGAVAD GITA
Devotee’s travel far and near
To chant and preach we have no fear;
We know that Krsna’s always there
‘Cause we see Krsna everywhere.

In Bhagavad gita, Krsna’s book,
He tells us how and where to look.
Just listen now, and learn to see Him present in His energies.

Among the stars He is the moon
Of lights He is the radiant sun
And as the Supersoul, He’s seated in the heart of everyone

He’s witness to each word and deed;
The resting place, eternal seed;
He is the beginning, middle and end;
He’s everybody’s dearmost friend.

He is the life of all that lives.
To all who worship Him He gives
The shining lamp of knowledge sweet,
That leads us to His lotus feet.

The spirit souls fell from above
To save us Lord Chaitanya came
To bring all the people back to Godhead
Chanting Krsna’s holy names:

Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare
Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare

FOUR KUMARAS
We are the four kumaras
We look just five years old
We never want our senses
To be out of control
We travel through the universe
Chanting all the way,
and now we’ve come to see our Lord
Narayana today.

I’M SPIRIT SOUL adapted
I know I’m not this body
I am pure spirit soul
This body ’s just a lump of flesh
That one day will have to go.

This body has a head and neck
And ears and eyes and nose.
My mouth will eat prasadam.
I chew with my lips closed.

(refrain)
For I’m spirit soul
Eternally in bliss,
Knowledge and every-increasing happiness.
Chanting Hare Krsna my life will be sublime.
I just have to remember this all of the time.

My arms have shoulder, elbows, wrists,
Eight fingers and two thumbs
But if I thought that this was me,
I really would be dumb.

I have a stomach, back, two sides; in my chest Supersoul resides.
I’m in there sitting next to Him.
He stays with me through thick and thin.
(refrain)

I have a waist and hips and knees
I have some thighs and calves you see
They’re not the king that Krsna tends
My ankles help my feet to bend.

And last of all upon my feet
You’ll find ten wiggling toes.
When I go back to Godhead
This body cannot go,
(refrain)
Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna…

ARE YOUR CHANTING? (sung in rounds)
Are you chanting?
Are you chanting?
Spirit soul!
Spirit soul!

Do what Prabhupada said,
You’ll go back to Godhead
Hari bol!
Hari bol!

GOVARDHANA HILL
Krsna plays on Govardhana Hill
Way up high on Govardhana Hill
And when He plays His flute all the cows stand still
And the birds all fall to the ground
When they hear that transcendental sound.

Srimati Radharani
Runs to peek behind a tree,
And anxiously awaits to see
Her Lover coming ‘round
With each step blessing the ground.

The cowherd boys run fast and climb
Atop the hill for His pastimes.
They chase the shadows of the birds
And roam with the cow herds
Eating sweets of ghee and curd.

Krsna dances on Govardhana Hill
Way up high on Govardhan Hill
And when they hear His flute
All the gopis stand still.
And their heart turn upside down
When they hear that transcendental sound.

PRINCE PRAHLAD
(refrain)
Oh sing a song ‘bout the Prince Prahlad Maharaj, and his eternal fame
He took shelter of Lord Nrsinghadeva and chanted the holy name.
Hare Krsna Hare Krsna….

Self control, wisdom and peacefulness,
Knowledge and religiousness,
Austerity and purity
Tolerance and honesty…

Sravanam, kirtanam, visnu smaranam, pada sevanam,
arcanam, vandanam, dasyam, sakyam, atma nivedanam.f

Hearing and chanting about the transcendental holy name,
Form, qualities, paraphernalia and pastimes of Lord Vishnu
Remembering Him, Serving the lotus feet of the Lord,
Offering Him respectful worship, offering him prayers
Becoming His servant, Considering Him one’s best friend,
And surrendering everything unto Him.
(refrain)

Hare Krsna Hare Krsna….

MAHARAJA AMBARISH
(refrain)
Maharaj Ambarish was a very great king,
Because he was a pure devotee
He used all of his sense in the service of the Lord
Because he was a pure devotee.

With his legs he danced in the temple room
With his arms he pushed on the temple broom
And with his voice he sang the morning tune.
He was in bliss ‘cause he sang like this:
Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna…

(refrain)

With his eyes he looked upon the deities
With his ears he heard the chanting of Hari,
And with his head he paid obeisances.
He never was sad ‘cause he always had;
Hare Krsna Hare Krsna….

(refrain)

With his mouth he ate only prasadam.
He lived with devotees for association
He made so much advancement by controlling his tongue
He had great faith ‘cause he chanted the name of:
Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna…

(refrain)

With his nose he smelled the Lord’s incense.
He always chanted without offense
He performed austerities and penance.
He couldn’t be tricked ‘cause he had his mind fixed on:
Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna…

Maharaja Ambarisa was a very happy man
Because he was a pure devotee
If you want to be like him, I’m sure that you can,
You can be a pure devotee.

You can be like him and it won’t take long
Just clap your hands and sing along
I’m sure you’ll like it and you can’t go wrong
So come on everybody and sing this song:
Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna ….

KURUKSETRA
Old King Dhrtrastara was very very blind.
He let Duryodhana say, “This kingdom’s mind!”
When actually the Pandavas were rightfully the heirs,
And so there had to be a fight to settle these affairs.

(refrain)
Kuruksetre became a battlefield.
At this holy place, Krsna would reveal,
What is right and what is real
And how we can never afford
To shirk our duty to the Lord.

The Kurus thought, “Of course we’ll win, our armies are so strong!”
But when they heard those conch shells blow
They knew that they were wrong.
For even though devotees don’t aspire for false pride,
If wrong’s been done, they never lose
“Cause Krsna’s on their side.

(refrain)

Arjuna asked Hrsikesa, “Please drive so that we might,
See who is assembled here, desiring to fight.”
But when he saw not enemies, but family standing near,
He dropped his bow and said, “Govinda! Please dispel my fears!”

(refrain)

The Supreme Personality of Godhead said,
“Arjuna, you’re thinking that they’ll be dead.
But never was a time that we did not exist,
The soul lives on eternally, remember this.”

(refrain)

Our worldly works can bind us to this land of woe.
Or take us to the planets where the hills are gold.
But service in devotion makes us ever free,
And situates us rightly at His lotus feet.

(refrain)

So now everyone can try to do his part,
And know the Lord’s been with us from the very start.
There can never be a time we’ll be apart,
Because the Lord of Love is seated in our heart.

(refrain)
Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna…

THE KILLING OF PRALAMBHASURA
Vrndava is such a nice place.
With Krsna there, there’s never a trace
Of doubt or fear, it’s springtime all year,
the peacocks crow and cool winds blow,
The waters fall and cookoos call,
The lotus blooms beneath the moon…
And everything is mute, when Krsna plays His flute.

One day Krsna and Balarama were playing with their friends,
A demon named Pralambha, came there to pretend.
He changed his ugly body to look like one of them.
He said, “Kamsa has sent me to, kill these boys of white and blue!”

So he came a little closer, to join into their fun,
Thnking he would steal the Lord and away He would run,
But because the Lord is residing, in everyone’s heart,
He knew the demon’s evil plan from the very start.

Krsna said, “Come boys, let’s fight. We’ll challenge Balarama with our might!
The team who wins the first attack, will ride upon the loser’s back.”
As they played they watched the cows, Pralamba meant to keep his vow.
So there he was on Krsna side, trying his best his form to hide.

As it was, Balaram was victorious,
His strength and His name are most glorious
So now the demon grew bolder. He took the Lord on his shoulder.
He had thought Krsna to be most powerful,
But now he found himself most sorrowful,
For Balarama’s just like a mountain,
Which is something he didn’t count on.

As Balarma was carried off away from where they played
He noticed that His carrier had changed in every way.
Pralamba, feeling such a weight, his normal form assumed
He looked just like a cloud with lightning, carrying the Moon.

So Baladev, Who has never missed, hit Pralamba with His fist.
The ugly demon fell down dead, just like a snake with a smashed head.
The boys were praising His powers
While the demigods showered flowers.
And the music was heard for hours,
The chanting of His name…
Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna….

THE KILLING OF PUTANA
King Kamsa had an evil plan, to send a witch throughout the land,
To kill the children that were small, he thought this would prevent his fall.
He sent Putana with this mission, “Kill them all, including Krsna.
He’s the one I’m most afraid of.”
But they didn’t know what He was made of.

(refrain)
Krsna’s the Supreme Personality of Godhead
Wherever He appears, He dissipates all fears.
His holy name alone can liberate us from death.
Putana got His grace, and went to His Own Place.

Even though she was so ugly, she made herself look quite lovely.
Dressed in jewels and golden crown, she made her way to Nanda’s town.
The gopis saw a goddess coming. As she walked, she looked so stunning.
She fooled Yasoda and the rest, for she’d smeared poison on her breast.
But…

(refrain)

Putana walked into the room, thinking Krsna would be dead soon.
As the Lord woke from His nap, Putana placed Him on her lap.
She gave her poisoned breast to nurse, but Kamsa’s plan worked in reverse.
As Krsna drank He closed His eyes, then He sucked out Putana’s life!
For..

(refrain)

Nanda returned with the cowherd men
And saw the form of the ugly demon.
Putana changed with her life now gone,
Into a dead witch, twelve miles long.
Yasoda chanted for protection and showered Krsna with affection.
Nanda said, “So she won’t return, we’ll cut up her body and let it burn!”
But…

(refrain)

As her body burned, the smoke smelled sweet,
For she’d been touched by Krsna’s feet.
She had more envy than any other,
But Krsna treated her like His mother.
The Supreme Person is so kind. She meant to kill Him
But He didn’t mind.
By Baby Krsna’s will she died, and from her sins was purified.

For Krsna’s the Supreme Personality of Godhead
Wherever He appears, He dissipates all fears.
His holy name alone can liberate us from death.
If we accept His Grace, we’ll go to His Own Place.
Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna….

BY BHAVATARINI
MRGARI THE HUNTER
1. Mrgari was a wicked, wicked one
He half-killed animals just for fun
He left their little bodies lie
Within the forest to slowly die.

(Chorus)
But by chanting he became pure 3x
And developed love of Krsna.

2. The saint Narada Muni came
Chanting Krsna’s holy name.
“How,” asked he, “did this come about?”
“I did it!”, the cruel hunter did shout.

(Chorus)

3. Narada showed the hunter how
Through karma someone pays,
If he won’t serve Krsna,
But keeps up his evil ways.

(Chorus)

4. Mrgari said, “I promise I'll
Change my ways from here on.
You’re my guru, I’ll follow you;
I’ll chant this Hari Kirtan.”

So, by chanting he became pure,
So, by chanting he became pure,
So, by chanting he became pure,
And developed love for Krsna.
(repeat)

CHANTING
(Chorus)
Chanting, Chanting, Chanting the Names of the Lord 2x

1. Hiranya Kasipu was King, and an evil one was he.
He bargained with Lord Brahma for immortality.
Not to die in the day, not to die in the night,
Not to die on the land, not to die on the sea,
Not to die by animal, not to die by man,
He wanted to live eternally.

Prahlad, the boy devotee
Was son of this demon king.
His father’s pride and joy was he,
Until he heard him sing.
Hare Krsna Hare Krsna
Krsna Krsna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama
Rama Rama Hare Hare

(Chorus)

2. This chanting made that king so mad that he tried to
Kill his son,
But Prahlada kept chanting Krsna’s Name so it
Could not be done.
He threw him to demons who boiled him in oil,
Put him out in wind and rain,
But Prahlada kept chanting Krsna’s Name
So it was done in vain.

Hiranya Kasipu then yelled, “Prahlada is your God here?”
He struck a column with his fist
And Lord Nrsingha appeared
It wasn’t by day, it wasn’t by night,
It wasn’t on land, it wasn’t on sea,
It wasn’t by animal, was not by man
He was killed by the Supreme Personality

(Chorus)

SYAMANTAKA JEWEL
(Chorus)
Symantaka Jewel, Symantaka Jewel, bright and shining jewel. 2x

1. Entering the city Dwarka, with the Symantaka Jewel,
Satrajit, the citizens of Dwarkadhama did fool
“Oh, Supreme Lord, Oh Narayana, the sun god now has come.”
Krsna smiling, said it is not the god of the sun.

Satrajit appeared effulgent from the dazzling gem.
Because he’d pleased the sun god once, he’d given it to him
Satrajit avoided Krsna, he was such a fool,
Overwhelmed by pride and greed because he owned the jewel.

(Chorus)

2. Symantaka produced gold each day with great ease,
By its presence there could be no famine or disease.
Krsna asked he give the jewel to Ugrasena the King,
Materialistic Satrajit would not do the best thing.

One day Satrajit’s young brother, wanting to display
His opulence, put on the stone and then he rode away.
While riding in the jungle a lion came and killed him,
Jambhavan, gorilla king, killed the lion and took the gem.

(Chorus)

3. Satrajit found the jewel gone and his brother dead,
“Krsna did it“, like wild fire and the false rumor spread.
Krsna did not like to be defamed in that way,
To the jungle He did go to find the jewel that day.

He traced it to Jambhavan’s cave and entered all alone.
He found the son of Jambhavan there playing with the stone.
Not recognizing his Lord, Krsna, Jambhavan did fight,
For twenty-eight days in the daytime and throughout the night.

(Chorus)

4. Jambhavan finally to his proper senses came,
He realized Krsna and Rama are the same.
He offered prayers, then he gave his daughter for a bride.
Krsna returned with the gem and Jambhavati by His side.

Satrajit felt ashamed that the Lord he did offend,
He desire to know how to make amend.
He gave the jewel and his daughter as a bride to Him,
Krsna pleased told Satrajit to keep the precious gem.

(Chorus)

5. To the Lord one should give all; he now could realize,
Everything in Krsna’s service we must utilize.
Satrajit now understood and gave up his false pride,
Krsna got His favorite queen Satyabhama as His bride.

To the Lord one should give all; he now could realize,
Everything in Krsna’s service we must utilize.
Satrajit now understood and gave up his false pride,
When Krsna’s pleased; then all who serve Him become satisfied.

(Chorus repeat three times)

KRSNA’S QUEEN SUPREME
Her lips are soft pink, and Her eyes are bright green.
She is just meant to be Lord Krishna’s queen.
She walks with grace and Her waist is quite thin.
Krishna thinks of Her, She thinks of Him.

Her brother Is a fool. Her brother is quite cruel.
He wants Her to marry Sisupala

Princess Rukmini, what can you do?
Write to Lord Krishna for your rescue.
“Please come her and take hold of my hand;
Before I am touched by this sinful man.”

Coming from the temple before the wedding day,
Rukmini saw Krishna on the way.
For the other princes, He had no care.
He took Her just like a lion takes his share.

But Krishna is God, so what can they do
If He decides to give rescue?
Rukmini-Dwarkadisha, now They do reign.
Everyone knows Their Holy Name.

Others may be fools. Others may be cruel.
But if you desire, Krishna will save you.

SUPERSOUL IS SEATED IN YOUR HEART
(sung to "Santa Claus is Coming to Town!")

Oh you better not shout
You better not cry
You better not pout
I’m telling you why
Supersoul is seated in your heart.

He sees all the good
He sees every vice
He always knows
Who’s naughty or nice
Supersoul is seated in your heart

He sees you when you’re sleeping
He knows if you’re awake
He knows if you been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake.

So you better not shout
You better not cry
You better not pout
I’m telling you why-

Supersoul is seated 3x
In your heart!

KNOW THE LORD IS NEAR (I made up my own tune to this one, a favorite poem from Reverend McGuffey)
When the stars at set of sun
Watch you from up high
When the light of morn is come
Know is Lord nigh

All you do and all you say,
He can see and hear
When you work
And when you play,
Know the Lord is near.

All your joys and griefs He knows;
Sees each smile and tear
When to Him you tell your woes,
Know the Lord will hear.

PANCHAVATI ("Sita In The Forest" from an old recording I believe was done in the U.K.(?))
Life is so sublime
Now we are living
In a simple little cottage in the forest.
Whiling away the time, sweet story telling
In a simple little cottage in the forest.

REFRAIN
Dressed in fresh clean cloth, we stroll together
Eating the fruits and the berries of the trees.
Gathering up the sweetly scented flowers
We hear the songs of the birds as they glide
In the breeze

Flowing free and fast the gentle rivers
Where the wise men live together in the forest.
Protecting them from many evil wizards
Is our daily pleasure pastime in the forest

REFRAIN

Dive into a lake of flowing nectar
Tell the sun to go higher in the sky.
We’d be happy here forever
Such sweet times, days and nights, pass us by...by by
Such sweet times, days and nights, pass us by....by by
